Envision Energy’s Senior Vice President and Head of International Business Products Line, Xu Kane, participated in several panel discussions at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan. As a representative of leading global renewable energy companies, Kane focused on advancing the global renewable energy agenda.
One of the key discussions was the panel titled “The Great Wind Re-set: Getting Wind Energy Back on Track for a 1.5°C World,” organized by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). Kane emphasized the critical role of technological innovation in accelerating the clean energy transition. In alignment with the “1.5°C” goal proposed by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which calls for tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030, Kane discussed the challenges and opportunities facing the wind power sector. The GWEC’s report highlighted that achieving the 2.7 TW target of installed wind power capacity by 2030 is becoming increasingly difficult due to the current slowdown in global wind growth.
“To achieve the 1.5°C goal, continued innovation in renewable energy technologies is essential,” Kane remarked. He highlighted advancements such as more flexible wind turbine designs to address transmission challenges posed by larger turbines, environmentally-friendly raw materials for turbine production, and improving the efficiency of renewable energy generation. Kane also stressed the importance of ensuring grid stability and security when integrating renewable energy at scale.
Kane further stated, “To advance the global wind energy mission, we must unite innovation, policy, and people—to ensure equitable access to clean energy, foster cross-border collaboration, and ensure that every turbine spins toward progress and the protection of our planet.”
In addition to the wind energy panel, Kane was invited by the host country Azerbaijan to participate in the panel discussion “Driving Sustainable Water and Energy Transitions.” Here, Kane shared insights on how innovations in wind energy and energy storage are helping to improve renewable energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions from desalination, and drive the global transition to sustainability.
Kane also reaffirmed Envision Energy’s commitment to the global green transition, underscoring the company’s dedication to delivering innovative solutions in wind turbines, energy storage, and green hydrogen, all aimed at overcoming the challenges of achieving a sustainable future.
